Per Diem Teachers

Per Diem Teachers are eligible for:

  1. Prescription Benefits
  2. Vision Benefits
  3. Occupational Liability Insurance Benefits (member only)
  4. Educational Conference (member only)
  5. Retirement Counseling

Requirements

  • After a Per Diem Teachers has worked 22 days in the previous or current school year as a Per Diem Teacher, the Board will make contributions for each day worked.
  • A Per Diem Teachers who served as a Long Term Substitute Teacher for the entire previous year is considered to have met the 22 days requirement for the current year.
  • When a Per Diem Teacher has worked 30 days beyond the initial 22 day period (total of 52 days), the Per Diem Teacher will be eligible for a Prescription Card for 6 months, which covers member, spouse and dependent children.
  • When a Per Diem Teacher has worked 60 days beyond the initial 22-day period (total of 82 days), the Per Diem Teacher will be eligible for a Prescription Card good for 6 additional months, which covers member, spouse and dependent children.
  • When a Per Diem Substitute Teacher has worked 60 days beyond the initial 22 day period (for a total of 82 days), he/she will be eligible for a vision benefit for one year.

  • When a Per Diem Teacher has worked beyond the initial 22 day period, the Per Diem Teacher will be eligible for:
    1. Occupational Liability Insurance
    2. Educational Conference
    3. Retirement Counseling
  • A Per Diem Teacher who does not work for two successive months during the school year shall lose benefits unless there are legal limitations.

Before we can issue any benefit,  we must have a completed enrollment card from the Per Diem Teacher.

If there is any change in marital status, address, or dependents, complete a blue Notice of Change card and mail it in immediately. A Per Diem Teacher can obtain these cards from a Building Representative or by contacting the Health and Welfare Fund Office.
