Core Knowledge

Core Knowledge is a researched based multicultural program that was started by Edward Hirsch at the University of Virginia. The Core Knowledge Sequence provides a basic core curriculum from Pre-School to Eighth grade, which allows students to learn new knowledge by building on what they already know. The Core Knowledge Sequence is a detailed outline of specific content to be taught in language arts, history, geography, mathematics, science, and fine arts. As the basis of about 50% of a school's curriculum, it can provide a solid, coherent foundation of learning, while allowing teachers to meet the curriculum requirements of their local school districts. Core Knowledge works best with additional programs in reading and math.
